Pants on Fire McKenna

Fuse 2012 awards Rob McKenna:
Pants on Fire Award: Attorney General Rob McKenna. Rob McKenna spent more than two years suing to overturn all the protections of the Affordable Care Act. We knew it. You knew it. And yes, even Rob knew it. Yet McKenna unleashed countless of press releases, speeches, websites and campaign emails claiming otherwise. Sorry, Rob. No amount of twisting, spinning, and deceiving will get you out of this flaming lie

Attorney General Rob McKenna: June 23, 2010
“The requirement that every individual obtain qualified health care coverage or pay a penalty is an unprecedented expansion of the federal government’s powers that deserves scrutiny by our courts,” he said. “Similarly, we believe the massive expansion of the Medicaid program will unconstitutionally require states to spend billions more on this program at a time when state budgets are already in crisis.”

Rob McKenna's "solution" is millions of Americans with no healthcare, insurance companies denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions and charging women more for their healthcare.  No thanks, Rob.

Following the same formula of the delightful children's story, (for adults) Go the F**k to Sleep, this 2012 Obama ad is funny and poetic yet still delivers an acutely effective message for American Voters. Highly recommended. This ad was paid for by the Jewish Council for Education and Research.*new link should work now*

Happy Friday

This Hubble image shows a bright blue group of young stars blasting apart the nebula that they formed in.  However, Spitzer, the infrared telescope reveals that new stars are still being created in the "pillars".   The formation is called N90 and is found in the southern Hemisphere constellation of Tucana.  N90 or NGC 602 is part of the small Magellanic cloud and is only 200,000 light years away.  Large numbers of distant galaxies are visible in this view, and they are millions of light years away.

Hard Working Americans

Hard working Americans should be able to make a living on their pay. Many can't cover living expenses let alone healthcare. I worry about those Americans and so should our president. We can do better as a nation to share our resources so everyone has enough to eat, a roof over their heads and a fair shot at a better life for themselves and their children. That's not an entitlement, that's America.

Romney And "Them"

Mitt Romney, the hopelessly out of touch rich, republican presidential candidate who thinks middle class Americans earns 200,000 to 250,000 dollars a year, tries to convince Americans he cares about the middle class. ( Average American salary is just over 50,000 a year and Middle Class is between 32K and 100K.)  Mitt Romney has no idea of how 99% of Americans live, what challenges they face in life or how much they make but he still knows his still unrevealed policies will help "them".
Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe:
"He's a horrible politician, he's one of the worst."

A Priceless Romney/Ryan Interaction

The audio on this clip is hard to heard, but you don't need the audio to see the priceless reactions of the Morning Joe crowd to this grating Romney/Ryan interaction.

Romney, The Coxsain

When Mitt Romney dismissed 47% of Americans for not pulling their weight, he attacked millions of hard working people making 25, 35, 45 thousand dollars a year. They pay social security taxes. State taxes. Local taxes. Gas, sales, and property taxes. Romney paid just 14 percent in taxes last year. On over 13 million in income. Almost all from investments. Instead of attacking folks who work for a living...Shouldn't we stand up for them?
Mitt Romney:
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what.

The Stench That Defined The Republican Party

Politico by Roger Simon, "Paul Ryan vs The Stench"
“I hate to say this, but if Ryan wants to run for national office again, he’ll probably have to wash the stench of Romney off of him,” Craig Robinson, a former political director of the Republican Party of Iowa, told The New York Times on Sunday.
Though Ryan had already decided to distance himself from the floundering Romney campaign, he now feels totally uninhibited. Reportedly, he has been marching around his campaign bus, saying things like, “If Stench calls, take a message” and “Tell Stench I’m having finger sandwiches with Peggy Noonan and will text him later.”

It's not the stench of Romney, that bothers Paul Ryan, its The Stench of the republican party.  Mitt Romney is a perfect mouthpiece for the policies of the republican party;  trickle down economics, self-deportation, voter suppression, filibuster, war in Iran, no universal health care, no wall street regulations, tax the poor, cut services for the poor, don't tax the rich, privatize Social Security, replace MediCare with a voucher, get rid of Planned Parenthood, monitor every uterus in America, Personhood amendment, redefining rape, global warming is a myth, huge tax payer subsidies to oil companies, nothing for green energy and declaring your parties number one goal is to make sure President Obama is a one term president.

Republicans don't stink, their policies stink.

Romney "Fair" For Him, "Entitlement" To You

Pelley: Now, you made on your investments, personally, about $20 million last year. And you paid 14 percent in federal taxes. That's the capital gains rate. Is that fair to the guy who makes $50,000 and paid a higher rate than you did?
Romney: It is a low rate. And one of the reasons why the capital gains tax rate is lower is because capital has already been taxed once at the corporate level, as high as 35 percent.
Pelley: So you think it is fair?
Romney: Yeah, I think it's the right way to encourage economic growth, to get people to invest, to start businesses, to put people to work.

Right, I'm a "job creator" so I deserve a lower tax rate.  The poor and the middle class should pay more taxes so they can "take personal responsibility".  That's the trouble with republicans, "other" people need to step up and volunteer for military service, pay taxes and practice civic responsibility.  The wealthy are too busy "creating jobs" to contribute to building and maintaining America.  Mr. Stewart on the Daily Show summarized the republican party perfectly.

John Stewart:

If they have success, they built it
if they fail, the government ruined it for them
if they get a break, they deserved it
if you get a break, its a handout and an entitlement

Genetically Modified Foods Hidden In Nation's Food Supply

Dr Michael Antoniou, molecular biologist at Kings College, London, and a member of the CRIIGEN scientific council, says:

"This is the most thorough research ever published into the health effects of GM food crops and the herbicide Roundup on rats. It shows an extraordinary number of tumors developing earlier and more aggressively - particularly in female animals. I am shocked by the extreme negative health impacts."
"The rat has long been used as a surrogate for human toxicity. All new pharmaceutical, agricultural and household substances are, prior to their approval, tested on rats. This is as good an indicator as we can expect that the consumption of GM maize and the herbicide Roundup, impacts seriously on human health."

I've argued that consumers have a right to know if their food products have been genetically modified.  Somehow, Monsanto tests "proving" their genetically modified and sprayed foods are safe, have done nothing to allay my fears.  GM foods need to be labelled, consumers have a right to know.  Both the French and Canadian governments have launched inquiries into the safety of GM foods.
