The only good thing about the upcoming sequester are the defense cuts. Sequester is a bad name for chainsaw spending cuts. We pay our legislators to make decisions, they decided that the best way to reduce our deficit is across the board spending cuts. Limousines for admirals and child care nutrition all cut equally?
John Boehner has been saying where is the President's plan? He said the same thing today. Perhaps, Mr. Boehner needs to get out of the sun, the President has a plan, he's sent the Speaker a copy and its on the White House web site HERE. Republicans in congress are obfuscating and pretending senility in order to protect unconscionable tax breaks for oil companies, banks and the super wealthy. Would you want to say, "I'd rather cut child care nutrition than eliminate the 4 billion dollar subsidies for oil companies".
- Sorry, Republicans. #Obamaquester didn't do the trick. You're still losing sequester blame game
- GOP knock Obama for "nonstop campaigning" on sequester
- Unemployed? In school? Poor? Here's how the sequester will screw you.

We have always enjoyed egg flower soup in Asian restaurants but we never thought of making it. Recently, my niece Linda sent me a recipe for Egg Flower Soup from a recipe book currently out of print: Gourmet Guide to Chinese Cuisine c1965 Diana Wu Liu & Lily Wu Tang. The soup was very easy to make and was delicious, so much so that I made the soup twice this week. Dried Shitake mushrooms soaked for 10 minutes in luke warm water then sliced were the meaty hit in this soul warming soup. The following recipe is adapted from Diana and Lily's recipe. Thanks for the recipe inspiration Linda.
Egg Flower Soup
6 cups chicken broth
3 eggs – slightly beaten in a large serving bowl
4 large Chinese dried mushrooms, prepared and diced
1 tsp gourmet powder (MSG)
1/2 package frozen peas (12 oz pkg.)
1 bunch of green onions sliced
1 vegetable bouillon cube
1x2 inch piece of ginger sliced
3 garlic cloves sliced
2 stalks Bok Choy thinly sliced
2 T corn starch in 1/4 cup water
1. Boil chicken broth 2 minutes with vegetable bouillon cube, garlic and ginger
2. Add gourmet powder, mushrooms, Bok Choy and frozen peas.
3. Cook 4 minutes
4. add green onions and corn starch, cook one more minute
5. With a large spoon start stirring the soup in one direction until a strong swirl is present, remove spoon and very slowly pour a small stream of the beaten eggs into the swirling soup mixture. This method creates the beautiful "egg flower" in the soup. Stirring the soup after the eggs are added to the soup can break up the delicate egg flowers.
5. Gently ladle soup into bowls and serve hot.

Perfect rice every time (if you measure correctly!), snap open lid, easy cleanup, detachable cord and a well designed and comfortable carrying handle all bundled in an attractive unit, this Panasonic rice cooker is a welcome addition to our kitchen.
This rice cooker prepares 1 scoop of rice (yielding almost 2 cups cooked) perfectly. Preparing one scoop of rice in our old rice cooker would yield tough rice (almost browned) on the bottom. We still love our new rice cooker.

The daily bread transformed into party dip.
|The daily bread and the dip wrapped and ready for transport to party.|
Knorr Vegetable Dip
1 16 oz. container low fat sour cream
1 can water chestnuts drained and chopped
1 bunch green onions finely chopped
1 pkg. frozen spinach cooked
Cook, drain and chop the spinach. Add the other ingredients and mix well. Chill.
The recipe on the package calls for 1 cup of mayonnaise, we think it tastes much better without the mayo.

If Congress will "take money from the NRA—and then continue to do their bidding—we're gonna remember that come election time."
This no-nonsense MoveOn ad, featuring an average gun owner will run on cable networks over the next 30 days. Any member of congress who thinks NRA president Wayne La Pierre has any rational message on guns or gun control deserves to be retired.

What I find amazing about this last video; the pedestrians calmly walking across the street after the fireball goes by. Of course, if I was walking outside in 12 degrees weather on icy roads I'd be focused on the nearest warm dwelling. Here in Seattle in 2004 I was awake in the middle of the night when our bedroom lit up like it was bright daylight, outside on the deck I heard 7 or 8 huge sonic booms. Witnessing that fireball wasn't the type of excitement most people prefer in their bedrooms. The bolide in Russia probably well over a ton in mass produced not only sonic booms but a shock wave that blew out windows and collapsed a roof at a zinc processing plant. Most likely many meteorite fragments will be recovered, and it will be interesting to see where this meteorite came from and its composition.
NASA has updated the size of the meteorite to 55 feet wide and also has upgraded the blast size to 500 kilotons of TNT. The improved data comes from five infrasound stations located around the world. The meteor was also substantially more massive than initial estimates. First estimates were around 7,000 tons but now scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California say the meteor weighed about 10,000 tons and was traveling 40,000 mph when it exploded.
