The constellation Orion is a prominent sight on Northern Hemisphere winter nights. The Orion nebula is the middle "star" in Orion's "sword" and is visible to the naked eye. This brilliant stellar nursery is located in our own Milky Way galaxy and is 1300 light years from Earth.
