Oops

Our lemon poppy seed bundt cake which didn't come out of our old and battered bundt cake pan in one piece.  Nonetheless it tasted marvelous.  I made three mistakes with this cake, I buttered the bundt pan but didn't flour the pan.  Also the recipe  stated that you should wait 10 minutes before attempting to remove the cake from the pan, I waited 15 minutes but most cooks recommend waiting until the cake is completely cool before attempting to remove the cake from the pan.  Finally, my wife thinks we overcooked the cake slightly which made it more difficult to remove.    We all had a great laugh at our sad looking cake, but the cake was delicious with the lemon frosting.

Stop Below Poverty Wages

When fast food corporations refuse to pay workers a living wage, you and I pick up the tab for the low paid workers medicaid and food stamps.

Petition Statement:
A whopping 52% of fast-food employees' families are forced to rely on public assistance to put food on the table or see a doctor, because you pay them poverty wages. That means every single American is picking up the check for nearly $7 billion in tax dollars a year—while the fast-food industry reaps billions in profits. It's outrageous, and it has to stop. It's time to pay your workers $15 an hour so they can make ends meet and Americans can stop paying for the hidden costs of poverty wages.

Sign the Petition to force fast food corporations to pay workers 15 dollars an hour.(MoveOn)

Sexism: Its Worse Than We Imagined

Image credit:  Memac Ogilvy & Mather Dubai and UN Women

Women shouldn't suffer from discrimination anymore.
I didn't believe the printed Google auto-complete  results, so I typed "women shouldn't" into Google myself:

"Women shouldn't have equal rights"
"Women shouldn't go to college"
"Women shouldn't wear makeup".
"Women shouldn't wear bras"
"Women shouldn't be in combat"

My results were equally offensive.  In America people can believe what they want, but responsible citizens can't allow sexist and misogynistic individuals to write our nations laws.  Since 2010 we have seen the republican political party wage an unrelenting War on Women; abortion restrictions, redefining rape, allowing employers to withhold contraception coverage, fighting equal pay for equal work, trap laws and unnecessary yet mandatory transvaginal ultrasounds....

When conservative talk Radio Host Rush Limbaugh launched a weeklong assault on the character of law student Sandra Fluke, calling her a "sl**" and prostitute among other things, the 2012 republican candidate for president was asked his opinion of the controversy.

2012 republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney:
"I'll just say this, which is, it's not the language I would have used, I'm focusing on the issues I think are significant in the country today, and that's why I'm here talking about jobs and Ohio."
From the lips of the 2012 republican presidential candidate, women's right to contraception, equality and respect are not significant issues in the country today.

Yes, On I-522

Text From I-522
AN ACT Relating to disclosure of foods produced through genetic engineering; adding a new chapter to Title 70 RCW; and prescribing penalties.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The people find that:
(1) Polls consistently show that the vast majority of the public, typically more than ninety percent, wants to know if their food was produced using genetic engineering. Without disclosure, consumers of genetically engineered food unknowingly may violate their own dietary and religious restrictions.
(2) Currently, there is no federal or state law that requires food producers to identify whether foods were produced using genetic engineering. At the same time, the United States Food and Drug Administration does not require safety studies of such foods. Unless these foods contain a known allergen, the United States food and drug administration does not require the developers of genetically engineered crops to consult with the agency. Consultations with the United States food and drug administration are entirely voluntary and the developers themselves may decide what information they may wish to provide.
(3) Mandatory identification of foods produced with genetic engineering can provide a critical method for tracking the potential health effects of consuming foods produced through genetic engineering.
(4) Consumers have the right to know whether the foods they purchase were produced with genetic engineering. The genetic engineering of plants and animals is an imprecise process and often causes unintended consequences. Mixing plant, animal, bacterial, and viral genes in combinations that cannot occur in nature produces results that are not always predictable or controllable, and can lead to adverse health or environmental consequences.
(5) United States government scientists have stated that the artificial insertion of genetic material into plants, a technique unique to genetic engineering, can cause a variety of significant problems with plant foods. Such genetic engineering can increase the levels of known toxicants in foods and introduce new toxicants and health concerns.
(6) Forty-nine countries, including Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Russia, the European Union member states, and other key United States trading partners, have laws mandating disclosure of genetically engineered foods on food labels. Many countries have restrictions or bans against foods produced with genetic engineering.

ISS Over Washington State

My son and I watched the space station soar overhead last night through light cloud cover until it winked out about 30 degrees above the Eastern horizon, when the station entered Earth's shadow.  Clearer skies predicted for tonight so catch a glimpse if you can.
