Why Barak got Bin Laden and Bush came up empty

These comments from George Bush were 6 months after 9/11 displaying a complete lack of interest in Osama bin Laden. Although the entire clip displays Bush's lack of interest in Osama, his "truly not concerned" comment starts at 2:41.

contrast Bush's lackadaisical comments with these from Barak

Well done Mr. President, Navy Seals, national security team and U.S. Intelligence.
Thank You!!

Spot On!!

Obama cracks up the press corps (minus the fox table).

If you missed it, the White House correspondents dinner: here are President Obama's remarks.
It's remarkable that preparations for the assault on Bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan were well underway during his comments, but he looks calm and collected knowing that an event that will define his presidency is only hours away.  I imagine thoughts on Jimmy Carter's Iranian hostage rescue mishap had occurred to President Obama but here he is delivering jokes with good timing.

Osama Bin Laden DEAD

picture of Bin Laden from Al Jazeera English

President Obama announced today that Osama Bin Ladin is dead.
"Tonight, I can report to the people of the United States and the world, the United States had carried an operation that has killed Osama Bin Laden, a terrorist responsible for killing thousands of innocent people," Obama said in a statement.
"Today, at my direction, the United States carried out that operation... they killed Osama Bin Laden and took custody of his body. "
In 7 years George Bush was unable to find the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld let Bin Laden slip away when he was cornered in  Tora Bora late in 2001.  Fewer than 100 American troops were at Tora Bora in 2001 with a much larger allied Afghan military force.   Why wasn't Osama killed in Tora Bora?  The US was already working on plans to invade Iraq and lacked the resources and impetus to mount an offensive to kill a man who murdered thousands of Americans.   You can read a Senate Foreign Relations report on the Bush and Rumsfelds failure here.  Tora Bora revisted: How we failed to get Bin Laden and why it matters today.  Many of the problems in Afghanistan over the last 10 years are traced back to Bush's failure to convincingly pursue Bin Laden at Tora Bora.    Maybe if George Bush hadn't invaded Iraq by mistake he could have found Bin Laden also.   But Obama did it in a little over 2 years.
