"Governor Romney, pay equity for women?"  Candy Crowley asked Mitt Romney this question in the second presidential debate.  Mitt Romney did NOT say, yes, absolutely or of course women should be paid the same as men.  Mitt talked about binders full of women and flex hours for ladies so they can go home and cook in their kitchens but equal pay?  Not one word from the republican presidential candidate.

 In Mitt Romney's acceptance speech, he mentioned women 11 times.  But, he didn't mention a women's right to equal pay for equal work.  He didn't mention a woman's right to control her own body.  He also promised to repeal Obamacare which will allow insurance companies to charge women more for their health insurance,  and eliminate birth control with no co-pay.   But, I'm sure Mitt Romney accepts women's right to vote, as long as they have state appoved picture ID.

I posted the wrong day for the meeting.  The correct day is Sunday, June 10th 2-4PM.  The error was entirely mine and sincerely hope no one is inconvenienced by my mistake.  

Ms. Karen Porterfield will be speaking at a meeting sponsored by the Sammamish MoveOn group at the Sammamish Public Library this Saturday 6/9/12 from 2-4 PM.  The correct date and time is Sunday 6/10/12.  Ms. Porterfield is running in Washington states 8th congressional district against the corporate funded congressman Reichert (R), who survived a 2010 well crafted challenge from democrat Suzan DelBene.   Congressman Reichert (R) voted against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay act and he has voted to cut funding from Planned Parenthood and Title X family planning.   Although, to the best of our knowledge Congressman Reichert doesn't have a uterus, he is delighted to enact legislation designating the proper use of Washington State uteri equipped citizens.  Ms. Karen Porterfield seems to feel that women, can make decisions about their bodies all on their own without the aid and guidance of old white republican men.  From Karen Porterfield's campaign website:

Congress: Pass the Paycheck Fairness Act

In what marks their latest anti-woman position, Senate Republicans are prepared to vote against the Paycheck Fairness Act. This would provide a much-needed update to the Equal Pay Act of 1963 to make it fit our modern times.
At its core, this law enforces actions against employers who discriminate against an employee's compensation based on gender and it strengthens penalties for equal pay violations.
Sens. Maria Cantwell, Ben Cardin, Kirsten Gillibrand, Bob Menendez and Debbie Stabenow have joined together to demand immediate passage.
Sign our petition calling on Senate Republicans to join us in passing the Paycheck Fairness Act without delay.

National Equal Pay Day 4/17

April 17th is National Equal Pay Day -- the day that symbolizes how far into any given year a woman must work in order to earn as much as a man earned in the previous year.
For example -- in 2012, a woman needs to work through all of 2011 and up until April 17, 2012 in order to earn as much as her male counterparts did in 2011 alone.

How would you feel if waitresses only filled 3/4 of your waterglass, nurses gave only 3/4 of your blood transfusion, or dental technicians only cleaned 3/4 of your teeth?  
Republicans have repeatedly voted against fair pay laws.  Every male republican in the senate voted against the Lilly Ledbetter fair pay act.  We need more non-republican women in Congress to address this travesty.
