The USPS creates affordable access to mail service for everyone.Will FedEx or UPS bring a letter three thousand miles for 46 cents? The USPS wasn't created to turn a profit; the idea that everything must turn a profit is absurd and toxic. Taxes pay for shared benefits. Does the US military turn a profit? Does the national highway system turn a profit? Does the NIH and CDC turn a profit? Does NASA turn a profit? Do school teachers, librarians and firemen turn a profit? If we want the USPS to turn a profit might as well just hand over mail service to Fedex now and pay $10 per letter.The USPS is the glue that holds our diverse nation together.
