Save the U.S.P.S.

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT)
“The postmaster general cannot save the Postal Service by ending one of its major competitive advantages.  Cutting six-day delivery is not a viable plan for the future.  It will lead to a death spiral that will harm rural America while doing very little to improve the financial condition of the Postal Service, providing fewer services and less quality will cause more customers to seek other options.  Rural Americans, businesses, senior citizens and veterans will be hurt by ending Saturday mail,”
 Weisberger Comment at Slate:
The USPS creates affordable access to mail service for everyone. Will FedEx or UPS bring a letter three thousand miles for 46 cents? The USPS wasn't created to turn a profit; the idea that everything must turn a profit is absurd and toxic. Taxes pay for shared benefits. Does the US military turn a profit? Does the national highway system turn a profit? Does the NIH and CDC turn a profit? Does NASA turn a profit? Do school teachers, librarians and firemen turn a profit? If we want the USPS to turn a profit might as well just hand over mail service to Fedex now and pay $10 per letter.
The USPS is the glue that holds our diverse nation together.

Who Gets Hurt When The Post Office Closes

The Post Office is not broke--and it hasn't taken any of our tax money since 1971
