Rush Continues to Lose Advertisers

Rush loses 98 advertisers!!
According to the Atlantic Wire, Rush Limbaugh has deleted some of his offensive remarks to Ms. Sandra Fluke from his official archives.  This weekend we have received news that Rush now has lost 98 advertisers.  The right is still defending Rush and complaining about double standards and Rush's first amendment rights.  We are not talking about a poor choice of words.  Anyone can, and many have at one time or another, used a word that was instantly regretted.  This is not the case with Rush.  Mr. Limbaugh made a 3 day attack on Ms. Fluke in an attempt to shame and silence this young college student from speaking about contraceptives.  Ms. Fluke was not a national figure (until Rush made her one), an elected official or TV personality; all of which are "fair game" for political targets.  Rush Limbaugh has a national audience, Ms. Fluke couldn't even get on Darrel Issa's panel to testify about contraceptives.  Rush was acting like a bully, using his power against someone who was in essence defenseless to answer his attacks.  Rush may scrub his website but Americans will not forget.  If you already haven't signed please sign the "I stand with Sandra Fluke" petition by Think Progress

Petri Dishes It Out To Rush

Alexandra Petri
Today, Rush Limbaugh has lost 42 advertisers.  (thunderous applause)  Alexandra Petri, a columnist for the Washington Post wrote an informative and interesting post that somehow Rush found offensive.  Rush felt the need to use some terms, that normal Americans refrain from.  So what did Alexandra have to say that so incensed Rush?

Advertisers learned something about Rush Limbaugh’s demographic this week.
“Here we thought lots of pleasant, upstanding people were listening to and enjoying the rational things Rush had to say,” dozens of companies said. “Apparently not.”
It turns out that people who really, truly still enjoy Rush Limbaugh’s show are — how do I put this? — jerks.

Update on Rush Limbaugh

Available from Amazon

In wonderful news 12 34* sponsors of Rush Limbaugh have pulled their ads from his show.  In addition, two radio stations have refused to air his show.  Real progress in only three days on removing Rush from the Airwaves.
Below is Rush's "apology".  Rush conducted a sustained 3 day attack on Ms. Fluke.  It was not just using offensive language.  This "apology" was posted on his website.  Sandra Fluke, the most important person in this controversy was not impressed or satisfied with Mr. Rush's words.

"In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.....
My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices."
No one uses language like that in order to be humorous.  Rush wasn't trying to be funny, he was attempting to shame and silence this young college student.   He was also changing the subject from contraception to sexual activity.  While access to contraception is a legitimate topic for discussion the sexual activities of college students is not an acceptable topic for public discussion.

The republican presidential candidates have failed on this issue. Romney has said:
"I'll just say this, which is, it's not the language I would have used ... I'm focusing on the issues that I think are significant in the country today, and that's why I'm here talking about jobs and Ohio."
It's not just a question of language, 3 days of personal attacks on a young college student and he faults the language?  Meaning that Romney agreed with Limbaugh's  general attack on Ms. Fluke but found Limbaugh's choice of words questionable.  Romney wants to bomb Iran, but he's afraid of Rush Limbaugh.
