Washington State is ready for same-sex marriage. In 2009, Washington State voters passed Referendum 71, granting same-sex couples all of the rights enjoyed by heterosexual married couples, except for one thing - the title of marriage.
It’s time to go a step further. It’s time for Washington to stand up for equality and grant gay and lesbian couples who share the values of love, commitment, and family the right to civil marriages.
Even the typically conservative Seattle Times editorial board has stood up in favor of marriage equality. They gave this call to action: “ALL right, Washington State: Let’s do something bold… Our state should legalize same-sex marriage.” (2)
