Congress Not Listening To 99%

The woman arrested in the video is Leah Bolger from Oregon.  She is the Vice President of Veterans for Peace and risked jail time for speaking up  in the Super Committee meeting.  She was released without being charged.
Bolger comments: "I had to speak up.  The witness, Douglas Elmendorf, was hiding the fact that military spending has increased dramatically in real terms and as a percentage of discretionary spending.  He was focused on percentage of GDP, as if war spending should increase whenever it can, not whenever it has to.  The simple deficit solution of taxing the rich and curtailing the militarism is favored by the majority of the public.  The 99% had no other voice in that room to compete with those of the corporate lobbyists."

 From Roots Action:
Reducing the House and Senate to a 12-member deficit committee was a very bad idea, and it's working out very badly.

Tell your representative to cosponsor HR 3201 to eliminate the Super Committee, and to vote down any proposal from the Super Committee that does not raise taxes on the superrich and cut the military -- or that does cut our social safety net.

Rep. Peter Stark of California made this statement on the floor of the house before the Iraq war 10/02/2002:
"Well then, who will pay? School kids will pay. There'll be no money to keep them from being left behind—way behind. Seniors will pay. They'll pay big time as the Republicans privatize Social Security and rob the Trust Fund to pay for the capricious war. Medicare will be curtailed and drugs will be more unaffordable. And there won't be any money for a drug benefit because Bush will spend it all on the war. Working folks will pay through loss of job security and bargaining rights. Our grandchildren will pay through the degradation of our air and water quality. And the entire nation will pay as Bush continues to destroy civil rights, women's rights...
Someone should give Rep. Stark a medal for predicting our current mess.   This whole mess we are in started with Bush, Cantor and Boehner.  They cut taxes on the wealthy and started two wars they didn't bother to pay for.  All three of them are responsible for our current deficit situation.  Why is anyone listening to Eric Cantor or John Boehner?  Speaker Boehner and Eric Cantor are both masters of failed policy.
